October Sky – OpenLinkNight
Written for the First Tuesday of October #OpenLinkNight @dVersePoets
Writing Notes: Inspired by a quotation, “I had discovered that learning something, no matter how complex, wasn’t hard when I had a reason to want to know it.”― Homer H. Hickam, Rocket Boys
I’m held by a Harvest Moon
setting on top of the sun.
I walk, collecting a jarful of stars
to light my way —
And here, a tangerine sunset
points starward above the tree lines.
Out and away —
skywinds blow home as summer wanes.
High upon an Ozark mountain ridge
where oak and pine trees meet the sky,
I walk out into the woodlands along the road’s edge,
dropping out of sight.
I close my eyes, lifting my face to the sun —
My heart opens.
I look up to the sky,
and the stars look down — a cup held —
I face the wind
I touch the wind
I capture the sun and moon —
Tucking them away for another winter’s day.

I too love autumn, Joanie…and look to it as you…a metaphor for a font of hope and new beginnings. This is a lovely work…tribute to this favored season, bringing forth a capture of a new start. Just lovely!

This was very moving and the music went so well with it. I understand the longing, the need to find escape velocity. Beautifully realized.
