Spring Migrations
In the spring small birds do come home again to the Ozark highlands!
I spotted my first Ruby Red-Throated Hummingbird
Arriving every year this second week of April
And again he makes his deadline
Carried by the winds
Relying on his own internal radar
And seeing the earth’s magnetic waves to read the directions by
Mapping out the sky ahead of him
Knowing the only way forward
Is to go through miles and miles
Nights and days
To the hilltops and sweet nectar again
