Nestled Days

Written for @dVersePoets at OpenLinkNight this last Tuesday of January . . .

nestled days gone by

snowdrops fall and fall again

days grow longer and longer

now at the half-way mark

winter

turns toward spring

and I

wishing for

kindness of spirit

and lasting patience

finding rest

at the feet of my home’s hearth

enduring

waiting

willing

for flowers to bloom

pushing out from the frozen dark ground

from this winter’s barren soil

unfolding

a simple Irish wish

a spark for my spirit to do the same

bloom

bloom

bloom

even on the harshest winter day!

  1. I’m still waiting for winter to come here, I have to confess… because I haven’t had my fill of skiing yet. But I can understand the frustration and longing for spring. I especially liked those single words building on each other:
    enduring

    waiting

    willing

    for flowers to bloom

  2. There can be no spring without the immense inwarding and retreat of winter. Until we’ve fully gone and lingered there, I don’t think we can appreciate this sort of prayer. Very nice.

    1. Thank you Maureen! And I love the Irish green come spring! I used to tell my daughter that St. Patrick’s Day was when the elves would come out and paint the whole landscape green!
