A Redbud Spring #NaPoWriMo

April is National Poetry Month and I hope you join me in writing a poem each day. Although I’m starting just this week, my goal is to write each day.

My morning on Lake Ann started the same way as all my other mornings with me going to my windows overlooking our cove. However, today I awoke to a beautiful white springtime snow which had fallen overnight ~

Light snow
Covers the docks and roof tops
Lining the soft curves of the cove

A master painter’s brush has
Outlined the hardwood branches
In fine Irish lace

Through open trees
Stands hints of green buds and first leaves
I can even see
Some mouse ear smiles

Sprinkles of pink
Are all throughout our cove
And over on the other ridge top too

I can see ~
Dozens and dozens of brand new Pink redbud blossoms
Painting a parkscape masterpiece

As the white snow caps lay
The snow itself looks pink

Like fields of lavender
Sitting in beds of pink tulips
With a touch of dancing buttercups

Was it the light?
Was it the fresh snow lift?
Yes, it was all of that
A true master’s gift ~
The start of our redbud spring!

Summer Haze and Sweet Lemonade Tea

This morning’s summer haze

Hangs over the horizon and woodland trees

Like a grey lace table cloth

Hanging on an outdoor clothes line

Peeping through just barely

Seeing the kids playing in the fields

While we . . .

Sit on our front porches

Drinking our summer sweet lemonade tea

Underneath the ceiling fans

Misted by our own

Hanging water gardens!
